Commonwealth games

Posted on Tuesday 21 March 2006

Well we just got back from the last night of swimming finals at the commonwealth games. Thanks Tom, the seats were awesome! We were dead centre of the pool, three rows from the front. We got to see Brett Hawke win bronze in the 50m freestyle, schipper win gold and create a commonwealth games record in the 200m womens butterfly, we saw Rickard win silver in the 200m breast stroke, only missing out on Gold by 1/100th of a second!! and bronze won by an australian only 1/100th of a second behind him! Amazing race. Then Rice won the gold in womens individual medley and reilly the bronze.
The 1500 wasn’t what we were hoping with no Hacket but Stevens raced well, but only got sixth. No medal in a race…shhesshh. :) But it was all forgiven when we watched the girls (Edinton, Schipper, Jones and Lenton) win in world record time the 200m womens medley relay, the atmosphere was incredible, got our money’s worth right there and then. Then just to top off the night the last race, our last chance for a Gold for the men, won easily by the team of Klim, sullivan, rickard and relle’s long lost cousin Matty Welsh. A brilliant night, one to definitely remember.
oh… and then I ran down and shook the hands of Matt Welsh, Sullivan, Rickard and gave Klim a pat on the back for a job well done… that was definitely a highlight too. :)
Check out the photos and videos at matt.hurgh.org/photos (unfortunately I forgot to take my camera so I had to capture the memories with my ipaq… sorry)
