One word: ok. 2 Stars.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead mans chest, the sequel to that suprising out of the box Johnny Depp magical ride Pirates of the Caribbean:The curse of the Black Pearl.
Sequels always have the formiddable task of measuring up to their predecessor while also trying to potentially be the precurser to a third sequel. Where the first one came with no expectations and I was blown away by the new character Captain (Pirate) Jack Sparrow. He was funny, witty and new. Unfortunately in the new movie this is all old and taken for granted. The movie takes a good 25 minutes to really get moving, starting with way to much story telling and scene setting before we get in to the good stuff. I think they missed the mark with their audience trying to spend too much time developing the characters and story rather than getting in to what we were all there for… sword fighting action, sarcasm and a whirl wind of pirate fun.
Now to its saving grace, when it finally does get down to that stuff, you are caught up and love every second of 3 way sword action, water wheel action and a great kebab scene to watch for. The movie ends up in the air specifically setting it up for a sequel which I think and hope will far surpass this one. Unfortunately my suggestion for this is to wait for dvd and be patient, it does get good. Will help to have scene episode 1 too. 2 Stars.
